Mary Pierce’s countryman, Julien Benneteau, has been defeated in the second round of the Rogers Cup by Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic. Berdych didn’t manage to win the match easily. He was made to work hard for each and every point. The Frenchman gave very tough fight to the Czech player. Berdych won the match by 6-7(10), 6-4, 6-4. The match went on for more than 3 hours.

In the first set, neither of the two players was able to get a breakthrough in the first 12 games and the set went into the tie breaker. Benneteau managed to hold his nerves in the tie breaker and won the first set. Both the players were fantastic on their service in the second set as well.

There was no breakthrough till the end of the sixth game. In the seventh game, Benneteau made some mistakes on his service for the first time in the match. Berdych took the advantage of the Frenchman’s mistakes and broke his service to take a lead of 4-3, and make himself the clear favourite for the set on the tennis betting sites. The Czech player made the score 5-3 by holding his service in the next game. After that, it was very difficult for Benneteau to stop Berdych from winning the set. The Czech player won the second set by 6-4 and made the match very interesting.

In the third set, Berdych played his best tennis. He dominated Benneteau in the final set. He took a lead of 2-1 by breaking the service of the Frenchman in the third game and he didn’t let Benneteau comeback in the match after that. He sealed the match by winning the final set by 6-4.

Berdych told the tennis latest news websites that he felt he was playing wonderfully and he hit a total of seven aces in the match.

In the third round, Berdych will play against Richard Gasquet of France.
