LI NA MISSES OUT

Li Na has been defeated by Serena Williams in the semi final round of the ongoing Western and Southern Open. Serena won the match in the straight sets by 7-5, 7-5.

Serena kept struggling with her fitness right through the contest, but, despite that, she somehow managed to down her Chinese opponent.

This was the 9th match between these two players and Serena defeated Li for the 8th time – going with the william hill tennis odds.

The American superstar will face the winner of the match between Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Jankovic in the final.

In the post match interview, Serena said, “I wasn’t in the best of forms coming into this tournament and I hadn’t expected myself to reach the title round to be honest. It’s really a strange feeling.”

In the opening set, the first 3 games went with the serve and at the end of the 3rd game; Serena was leading by 2-1.

Li dropped her serve in the 4th game to get down by 1-3. In the next couple of games, there were no breakthroughs and the score was 4-2 in Serena’s favour at the end of the 6th game.

The America superstar was broken back in the 7th game and then, a serve hold for Li in the next game levelled the proceedings.

Li got second consecutive breakthrough in the 9th game to get ahead by 5-4. She was serving for the set in the 10th game, but, she wasted that opportunity. Her serve was broken and the scores got equalized again.

After that, Serena didn’t give Li any opportunity. She bagged the next couple of games by playing some crisp shots and sealed the opener by 7-5.

In the second set, Li was just terrible on her serve. Her serve was broken 5 times consecutively and she ended up losing the set by 7-5 to get knocked out of the tournament.
