Pierce Has Doubts About Mauresmo

Mary Pierce doesn’t think that Andy Murray will appoint the former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo as his head coach.

In one of his interviews after the French Open, Murray had hinted that he might decide to go with a female coach and since then, there have been speculations that it’s going to be Mauresmo as she was in the stands watching Murray’s opening round encounter at Roland Garros.

But, according to Pierce, it would take her by surprise if Mauresmo indeed gets appointed as Murray’s head coach.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, the 39 years old Frenchwoman said, “It has happened in the past that a female has coached a high quality male player, but, honestly speaking, I don’t think Amelie is going to make it as Andy’s coach. My eyebrows would get raised automatically if it happens.”

“I am not denying it completely. Nothing is impossible. She was among the spectators watching Andy play the other day and I did question myself why she was there. Let’s see, we will have an idea about that in the near future.”

If Murray hands the coaching job to Mauresmo, it would be her second tenure as coach with a male player. She has had association with her compatriot Michael Llodra in the past. So, she must have the idea how to get along with the male players.

Mauresmo was considered as one of the most talented players when she had first arrived into the arena, but, she couldn’t win as many titles in her career as she was expected to. She retired at the end of the 2009 season after having won two Grand Slam titles. She is the non playing skipper of the French Fed Cup team at this point of time.
