FOCUS ON PIERCE

One of the older tennis players when compared to the rest of the world, Mary Pierce is a hybrid player – that is she is an American French Tennis professional player who is a citizen of France, Canada and the United States of America without any doubt but plays for France not only in mere competitions but also in the Olympics.

Mary Pierce has reached the finals many a times – the latest ones being the U.S Open and the French Open in the years 2005 while she has also won two Grand slam awards- two being in singles and two being in doubles. The Grand slam single titles were won in the year 1995 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open. With respect to the Women Tennis Association, Mary Pierce has won 18 WTA single titles and 10 WTA double titles. In the WTA Tour championship, she has reached the finals twice.

Due to injury and sustained pain, Mary Pierce never returned to play the sport neither for any tournament nor for any Olympics.  In the year 2006, Mary Pierce won many titles, the first being the Australian Open where she defeated Nicole Pratt and losing the second round, not being able to face off Martini Hingis – popular in the Women Tennis Association.  However the unfortunate part of her career was that she had to withdraw from the French Open and the Wimbledon due to sustaining from foot and groin injuries. After taking rest and not playing for a very long time – a hiatus of 6 months from the game, Mary Pierce finally made a comeback in the Acura Classic in San Diego but lost in the quarter final to Maria Sharapova. This was not all. Mary Pierce also played in the  U.S Open, losing to famous tennis player Na Li.
